This is our second night in our new home with our wonderful friends. We had some interesting(ly long) adventures getting over here with no sleep for any four of the Smith Family Band (working slowly on that post. ). So, needless to say, we are having a hard time adjusting to the 9 hour time jump. Last night was ok. Selah did the best (it is not uncommon for her to beat out Abram for the "less of a handful" award). Abram woke up at 2:30am last night after going to bed around 9pm ish. Then he went back to sleep at about 5:30am and slept until 11 or so. Which is what Quinn and I did as well. Selah had one wake up a little later in the morning and went right back down until 11 as well.
Anyway, it got us pretty excited. We thought that was pretty good for the first night. Then we were awake all day today. Selah had one good nap and a few little ones while we were out shopping. Abram did not. Nap, that is. And he readily went to bed around 9 again. I was praying for a full night of sleep for all of us.
However. I am getting a cold. So I can't breathe through one nostril. And my throat is itchy and I'm coughing. So I was lying awake looking around our big bedroom, trying to make mental notes of everything I realize/remember that we need to get. I was almost asleep when, around 2:30am, I suddenly heard "Appy bur day to you. Abey. Appy bur day to you" in an oh so happy awake in the middle of the night adorable toddler voice.
After about 5 minutes of hoping it would stop, Quinn and Selah heard it too. Darn. Adding a hungry infant to the mix wasn't what I was hoping would happen. Quinn took Abram in to the kitchen for some cereal while I fed Selah who went easily back to sleep after a few middle of the night giggles for me (award winning, yet again).
I took my wide awake self to our kitchen and started unloading some of the things we bought today and, after an hour and a half, Quinn brought Abram back to put him in bed. He did not go willingly. But, praise God, Selah slept through it.
It's really hard to be upset with him, though, because the way that he talks to himself in his tent when he should be sleeping but isn't is incredibly adorable. I can literally tell what he's pretending in there and what toys he is imagining he's playing with based on what he's saying. Mostly it's car or train related. Abram makes everything into trains (read: lines them up and says "choo choo") but he has cars too and he loves them. Newest Abram phraseology: "up a hill, down a hill" (l's said like w's), "Beep. Beep. Honk. Honk." (Each syllable very deliberate) "Mommy, Daddy, Seyah. Mommy, Seyah, Daddy, Seyah"
Anyway, too cute. Now I am almost ready to go to sleep and Quinn is claiming he is up for the day. And both kids are now asleep, praise God. Just thought I'd write a little something about some of the conversations we are hearing.
And now a little picture preview of the travel post I am slowly work on. In honor of our jet lag: the jet that gave it to us:
