... of a haircut

I am debating cutting my hair.  This is the longest that it's been since I was a sophomore in high school.  That's 14 years, people!  Normally, long hair is great.  You have so many options.  Normally.  However, I am now back in grabby baby hands stage - which continues for quite awhile.  We are also on the verge of moving to a country which is, presently, sitting at right around 120 degrees during the day.  Yes. 120.  That's right.  I am sure that I will not want my hair on my sweaty neck.  So all of this  basically means that it is in a perpetual pony tail.  And a perpetual pony tail makes this mom mistakenly think that she can get away with multiple days without showering.  This is far from the truth and, really, if I needed to, I could find time to take a shower. I just don't prioritize it because of the perpetual ponytail.  So my thought process is that, if I have shorter hair, I will be forced to shower.  And it won't get stuck in baby hands as easily  I'm not talking uber short, more mid-length.  This is the picture I was going to bring in when/if I go.
Quinn has already given his approval.  Now it's just a matter of whether I want to go through with it or not.  I actually kind of like change, so I'm liking the idea of this at the moment.  But it's late and I'm getting tired, so I'm going to see how I feel in the morning.  If I do it, I'm going to do it in the morning during Selah's first nap, since it's the longest.  So I may be back tomorrow with a new look!

And for fun, some pictures of the family hanging out here at the Shockley house in Colorado.

Alright.  I've got to go.  It's late and my parents' computer keyboard stinks and is frustrating me.  Dumb.

...of a name

If you've been tracking with us for awhile now, you may remember that when we were pregnant with Selah, we had a boy name chosen .  This time, we had a few boy options, but the old standby won out, because we really do like it a lot.  But just like two years ago, we still can't quite agree on a middle name for this kid. That's where you can help. His name is Simon.  After Simon Peter, the apostle.  It's five letters and it's Hebrew (like the other kids) and we like  it. But, here's the thing: We have four options for middle names.  The two that Quinn really like, I have been vehemently opposed to.  I will share them with you in the most unbiased (yeah, right) way possible and you can tell me if I'm wrong.  For real.  I won't be mad. He likes Simon Quinn and Simon Peter. Now, you may be thinking "Wait a minute... isn't Quinn Abram's middle name?" Why yes, yes it is. Much to the credit of his beloved parents, Quinn likes his na...

...of three

So we are having another baby.  Whew.  There, I said it.  No creative lead up and stunning reveal.  Just there .  Baby.  Bam. That's a little what it felt like to find out that a third child would be joining our ranks a bit short of 3.5 years after our first child was born.  We were content with our two.  A boy and a girl.  Who could ask for anything more, right?  Also, Quinn and I each have just one sister, so it seemed natural for us to stop at two. So that's what we were working to do.  I won't go into the details of it all with you in this forum, but we really were attempting to avoid pregnancy. So this wasn't a "woops" moment.  This was a "many things happening coincidentally" moment.  And so when we confirmed that we were, indeed, expecting another baby, there was a bit of shock (of course), but also peace and assurance in knowing that God definitely showed us His hand in it. We told Abram pretty early on and he...

... of a patent

... or maybe, just maybe , I'm jumping the gun :) A good friend told me the other day that she and her husband have been leaving church after the worship because she can't sit for an extended time in the folding chairs. Our church did a great thing and bought inexpensive folding chairs for our sanctuary in order to 1)save money and 2)be able to use the empty room for community type events in the neighborhood during the week. This is awesome. I support their decision and so does my friend who is leaving after the worship (and watching the previous week's sermon from home). But she is pregnant. She already had back problems and now (of course!) they are worse. My back is just starting to bother me and I know that there are many pregnant women with back problems and normal people with back problems who whimper inside a little every time they enter a room and see folding chairs. Until now, I had just sort of reconciled myself to the fact that sitting in a folding chair was ...
