... of dedication

Tomorrow, Selah is three weeks old!  That went by fast.  Also, next week, Abram will officially be a year and a half.  That went by really fast.  He's like a real little person now.  Quinn took him for a walk yesterday in his sunhat - which is just about the most awesome looking thing you've ever seen on an 18 month old.
He keeps it on surprisingly well when he is outside, distracted by walking...
and big sticks.

He's curious about pretty much everything and, while he isn't a dare devil kid, he will investigate pretty much everything.  So he ends up in boxes and under tables and stuff like that.

He has a bunch of those colorful magnet letters that I actually bought for me before we had kids, but they are pretty much his favorite thing in the whole world.  And of all those favorite magnet letters, the green "B" is, by far, his very, very favorite.  We keep them in a Tupperware bowl on a high shelf so that they can only be scattered all over the floor and house when Quinn and I want them to be (which is actually never, but we give in to his incessant pointing and begging most of the time.)  Before it's even open he's chanting "B, B, B, B" and when he can finally get at them, he digs around until he finds that B.  Then he just kinda carries it around and looks at it and gives it to us.  It's like he just wants us to know that he knows the letter B.  He also knows D, A, and I by sight (that I've heard) and tonight he said "M" when he put the M away - but that may have been a fluke.  My artist husband is making an alphabet book for him that exists in a sketch book at the moment and is only complete up to F.  But he loves helping Daddy find the letter they are working on in his bowl and tracing it on the page and helping Quinn color the pictures that he's drawing.  The book is a pretty cool idea, but I'll delve into that some other time, or show it to you when it's more complete.

So there's the little man update.

The little lady is being dedicated at church tomorrow morning!  Abram was dedicated at 9 months, because our church didn't do baby dedications for awhile after he was born.  Now they only do them 3 times a year and we know that we aren't going to be around for the next 2 this year.  So we hurried and got her signed up for this one.  It's pretty cool that it will be on Mother's Day!  We have a lot of friends who are going to try and be at the service.  In case you aren't sure about what is entailed or implied by a baby dedication, it's basically when we dedicate her to the Lord and the Church (big C church) and commit to raising her in Christ.

She is getting a little less passive and a bit more vocal, mainly when she has tummy issues.  This is been happening mostly at night and I'm trying to decipher what it is I'm eating that's upsetting her.  I think it's spicy food.  And maybe tomatoes.  But people have been so sweet by bringing us food and some of it's been spicy and some of it's had tomatoes.  It's so hard because it's so good and I just can't not eat it, especially when someone has worked so hard to prepare it for us.  She is still not spitting up (knock on wood) and she is a champion burper when I put her in a sitting position with her face in my hand.  It literally takes all of five seconds to get a big burp out of her when I do that.  That means her gas is probably the cause of food and not air bubbles.  Probably.  It's so hard to hear her wail in pain suddenly, so I guess I better get some self control with my diet, and fast.

Just thought that I would update with some facts and happenings, since I've actually been looking back at my blog from when Abram was a newborn and comparing facts to see if he was doing the same things at the same time.  I've totally forgotten when exactly things happened, so it's been nice to have it all chronicled.  I wanted to make sure that I did some of that with Selah, even though it takes a little longer to write than it does to just upload pictures and add captions.  But in that vein, I will just share some fun pictures from the last few days.

A visit from our good friends, Akin and Masami.

Selah got a bunch of cute hand me downs from my friend Shanda and my friend Katherine.  It's been so nice to have all these adorable clothes that we didn't have to pay for and can just give back when she grows out of them.  I have bags of clothes from Abram that the resale stores don't want because they are overstocked and I wish that I had someone to give them to.  My friends that are having boys are all pretty much set on clothes, so I guess I'll be selling them at a garage sale soon unless someone appears...

Today was the first day that either one of us held both kids at the same time.
Look at that super Dad!

Well, I think I may need to do some leg pumping on this girl (who won't take a pacie for comfort), since Quinn's been walking around with her for a half an hour and it doesn't seem to be helping. Have a very happy mother's day!

P.S.  If you want a more poignant mother's day post, here is the one from last year.  It's a pretty good read :)

... of the tipping point

I haven't blogged in so very long, I can't remember when and I'm not going to stop this thought train to go and check. Suffice it to say, it's been awhile. But I showed up here to share (and document) a major event in the life of our family.  Before Moses came home, I would see adoptive families posting about their kiddos' "Tipping Point Days". I recently heard it called something else as well, but I'm too tired to think of it right now. Basically, it is the day when your adopted child has been with you for as long as they were not  with you. For kids that were adopted at 1 or 2 or 3, that seems to come quickly and maybe feels eventful, but not monumental. Well, when we got custody of Moses he was about 4 years and 9 months old. I remember coming back to America and seeing someone in my adoption group post about their 2 or 3 year old's Tipping Point Day and thinking I should figure out when Moses's would be. So I did. I sat down and figured ou...

...of a name

If you've been tracking with us for awhile now, you may remember that when we were pregnant with Selah, we had a boy name chosen .  This time, we had a few boy options, but the old standby won out, because we really do like it a lot.  But just like two years ago, we still can't quite agree on a middle name for this kid. That's where you can help. His name is Simon.  After Simon Peter, the apostle.  It's five letters and it's Hebrew (like the other kids) and we like  it. But, here's the thing: We have four options for middle names.  The two that Quinn really like, I have been vehemently opposed to.  I will share them with you in the most unbiased (yeah, right) way possible and you can tell me if I'm wrong.  For real.  I won't be mad. He likes Simon Quinn and Simon Peter. Now, you may be thinking "Wait a minute... isn't Quinn Abram's middle name?" Why yes, yes it is. Much to the credit of his beloved parents, Quinn likes his na...

...of three

So we are having another baby.  Whew.  There, I said it.  No creative lead up and stunning reveal.  Just there .  Baby.  Bam. That's a little what it felt like to find out that a third child would be joining our ranks a bit short of 3.5 years after our first child was born.  We were content with our two.  A boy and a girl.  Who could ask for anything more, right?  Also, Quinn and I each have just one sister, so it seemed natural for us to stop at two. So that's what we were working to do.  I won't go into the details of it all with you in this forum, but we really were attempting to avoid pregnancy. So this wasn't a "woops" moment.  This was a "many things happening coincidentally" moment.  And so when we confirmed that we were, indeed, expecting another baby, there was a bit of shock (of course), but also peace and assurance in knowing that God definitely showed us His hand in it. We told Abram pretty early on and he...
